The Essence of Lovingreens

Hi I’m Alix, the founder of Lovingreens. I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada and have studied and interned in Amsterdam. I have both French and Canadian nationality, an entrepreneurial spirit, and an appreciation for good food, all thanks to both of my parents. 

I started this company for two reasons. First, to prove to myself and maybe also the world, that it is possible to successfully run a small and sustainable, urban farming business. Second, my objective was to explore the most sustainable approaches to operating a company while prioritizing a diminished environmental footprint and quality products. While profit is essential in the continuity of my goals, it’s not the driving force behind my dreams. That is the essence of Lovingreens. 

Urban Growth

I began my experience with urban farming in university studying ecology and in an urban environment lab course. From there I received an internship at an amazing place called Mediamatic where I was introduced to and learned the inner workings of aquaponics. I was hooked. I knew this was something I could see myself doing for the rest of my life. Since then, I have become fascinated with the idea of farming microgreens as they are effortless to grow, don’t take up much space in the process, are super healthy, tasty, and look beautiful! 

My future goals: I will diversify my products by growing edible flowers and all kinds of mushrooms. I will also build my own greenhouse in the city and provide space for other entrepreneurs or plant lovers to grow their own plants. With your help, it can happen!
